Who is responsible for the design of street lighting?
I believe this is a question that is seldom asked, and prior to my involvement in this industry, I wasn't even aware that there existed a profession called 'street lighting designer'! However, here we are.
So, who exactly designs street lighting?
Well, that's where we come in. We are Williams Lighting Consultants Ltd., an independent consulting firm that specialises in providing street lighting design services. Personally, I have been designing street lighting systems for almost 20 years now. The time has passed by so quickly, and I wouldn't trade it for anything else. It's a captivating industry that has a way of captivating you as soon as you become involved, as many have experienced!
To give a more comprehensive answer to this question, there are various individuals and entities involved. Apart from independent lighting consultants like us, there are also in-house teams within local authorities, lighting teams within manufacturing companies, and even large infrastructure consultants who have their own lighting departments.
